Mother Hulda c1777 finally gets a headstone in the burying ground of the Old Dutch Church.
A curious thing happened. A missing headstone turned up. North of the Old Dutch Church in the town of Ossining a colonial headstone was found, broken in two pieces, covered by a bush in historic Sparta Cemetery. The women who found the stone quickly realized that it did not belong in Sparta. More research ensued…
“He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.”
The season of the Headless Horseman brings families to the Old Dutch Church for stories and Legend.
